The Chautauqua Institution is located within the Cornerstone District of the Upper New York Episcopal Area. The Cornerstone District Superintendent is an ex officio member of the UM House Board of Trustees, and three elected members of the Board are members of Upper New York churches.

In ages past, the Annual Conference that contained Chautauqua crossed the state border between New York and Pennsylvania. When Conference lines were rearranged, the House by-laws were changed to preserve the historic connection between the House and its two closest Districts by including both Upper New York and Western Pennsylvania as sponsoring Conferences.
